Posted by:Avid-admin inInternet Marketing News

Mobile devices have been around for a while now, but this day and age, everyone has at least one mobile device. This of course is the first clue to why mobile first design is the latest trend, and in fact, is crucial to having a successful website.

In 2018 Google rolled out mobile-first indexing. What this means is that, google is prioritizing links and content from mobile website pages. Now you might ask, why would Google do such a thing? The answer is simple, with the continuous exponential growth of mobile device usage around the World, it makes since that the priority should be given to mobile sites. In fact, statistics show that over 50% of global website traffic, comes from mobile, and this trend will only increase in the years to come.

Mobile First Design

You may ask, what exactly is mobile first design? Well put simply, mobile first design is a strategic design approach, where you consider the mobile user’s needs first. In other words, making the site simple, user-friendly and fast, to ensure that the mobile user can easily and quickly access the info, products or services that your site has to offer. This makes perfect sense, as most mobile users are on the go, and they need quick access to services, they don’t have all day to wait around for your site to load, or endless scrolling to find what they are looking for.

What Is Involved With Mobile First Design?

There are several things that you must consider in order to insure you are maintaining a mobile first strategic design approach.
Simplicity

The saying “Less is more”, applies here. Minimization is crucial to a successful mobile first design. Keep things simple, keep the crucial components within your site, and remove the excess fluff. By doing this, you not only decrease the load time of your site, you also allow the mobile user to easily access the information they came to your site to find.

Content Is Still King, But…

Longer and in-depth content is still very important, it has shown to generate a much larger percentage of leads. However, for mobile users, they don’t have the time or patience to scroll for hours sifting through excessive content. So, what should you do? In terms of the mobile user experience, you want to still use in-depth content, but make it more concise, and direct, ensuring that you optimally use as few words as possible.  You have to strike the right balance between detailed and direct.

Are your Call to Actions (CTA) Effective?

Call to Actions are crucial in generating leads for the products and services that you offer. It is the whole reason you bring visitors to your site. But are your CTA’s effective for a mobile user, this is what you need to make sure of. Some steps include; making sure any forms or pages that you send a user to, are mobile friendly, consider mobile-friendly features such as live chat and SMS, electronic signature capabilities and much more.

Graphics are still great!

A mobile first design strategy does not mean you have to throw away all your eye catching graphics and beautiful design work, because people still love a great presentation. A well designed site inspires trust and is more memorable, which are things that you want your visitors to experience. However, you just need to be aware that you are designing for a mobile user, so keep your graphics small in size. So how do you accomplish great graphics and presentation, while avoiding the dreaded pixilation? By using colors that are vivid, geometric shapes, typographical elements, illustrations, etc. You can accomplish great creative design, while at the same time keeping it simple and concise. This will keep your load times down, while still impressing your site visitors.

Conclusion

There are several other components that you must consider in adopting a mobile first design strategy, but these are the most crucial items, you need to include with your design concepts. Many people still use desktop computers, but it is in a sense, a dying trend, people like compact light weight access to the global market, and mobile devices allow them that luxury. This is why it is crucial that your site meets the demands of the present and future. Hence why Google has made it a priority in its search results, after all, what good is your website if no one can find it?
